Moby @ the Vrt
by Karolien Taverniers on mei 25, 2008
Moby arrived with a mega jetlag in Brussels. But he was busy as a bee.
First he had an interview for Studio Brussels. Then there was the Volt reporter who wanted him to play a copple of covers with a twist. To record these experiments we had to look for a piano. I suggested the Marconi Studio where there is a nice piano. It sounded nice enough to Moby, but it was too complicated to record in that studio.
So we all moved to the shabby Radio 2 studio where a “wired” piano was waiting for Moby. He took his time and then played a ‘sad’ version of In the Ring of Fire. It was a slower version and amazing how he could just start playing it (but I think in the ring of fire is a sad song anyhow). He also did a wacko version of Creep. I guess you can still hear them on the Volt site.
Moby drank tea all the time. He prefers green tea, but drank English breakfast cause we didn’t have green tea in our box.
I finally interviewed him 20 minutes as promised. And he said some wonderful things about New York. It being the most tolerant place on earth where jewish and arab families have picnics in central parc sitting next to each other or gay copples kissing while walking on the street. And how New Yorkers first and foremost feel New Yorkers and will only say that they are Americans if they have to. And how they don’t trust the rest of the states and how the rest of the states don’t trust New York(ers).
I would love to go out in New York with Moby one day, have drinks and talk and dance club and party. He says he’s 42 now and stil goes out way too much. But that at night people are more beautiful and life is more exciting…. and that he wouldn’t mind coming back as a vampire if he had the choice
His record made me wanna go out and dance again. Soon!
